In short no one who knows dogs thinks these policies make any sense whatsoever. Moreover, you may be legally required to make an exception for service animals of any breed. According to the United States Department of Justice it is neither "appropriate or consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to defer to local laws that prohibit certain breeds of dogs based on local concerns that these breeds may have a history of unprovoked aggression or attacks." Guess what? If the ADA trumps local law it's very likely to trump your own discomfiture with certain breeds too.
Fair prices. Nice sites. Didn't stay long. Just passing thru
This "pet friendly" camp site has the following policy "our pet policy is, no aggressive dogs, no Pit Bulls or Pit Bull mixes, Rottweilers, Chow, Wolf Mix, Doberman Pinscher or any mixes of these breeds are allowed on site. No Exceptions." The theory underlying such policies—that some breeds bite more often and cause more damage than others—has been soundly rejected by: the American Bar Association, American Kennel Club, ASPCA, American Veterinary Medical Association, Animal Farm Foundation, Association of Pet Dog Trainers, Best Friends Animal Society, British Veterinary Association, Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, Humane Society of the United States, Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, National Animal Control Association, National Canine Research Council, RSPCA's in Australia and the UK, and United Kennel Club, and has never met with success in practice.
No exceptions.
Park is nice, but 3 days into our planned week stay, they called us up to office and told us we'd have to leave because we have a rottweiller. When I made reservation, she asked if we had dogs and how many, but said nothing about breed. We have a KOA discount card because we stay at a lot of KOA parks and haven't had a problem. Phyllis in office was rude and kept saying I had not been truthful. If the park has a specific breed restriction, when you say you have dogs, the next question should be "what kind". Nobody asked me that question. I wouldn't recommend this park to anyone.
Very nice facilities. Fun playground for the kids and the pool is heated. Easy access off 301. Starke is nice town, close to Gainesville and plenty to do. Only reason not a 5 is the WiFi is terrible.
Well spaced out, very clean. Staff helpful. Some traffic/train noise.
Hopefully someone else will litigate that matter for you and straighten it out. Won't be my problem. I don't revisit camp sites with ignorant, breed specific policies. Nor do I trust my safety or comfort to hosts with the poor judgment to adopt such a stance. Moreover I hold the entire KOA franchise accountable until all its franchisees policies are brought in line with the scientific reality.
